I have long hair, and am getting my hair cut about 2 inches longer than my shoulder with a lot of layers. Well, my appointment is at 5:00, and I have a choir concert at my school at around 6:30 (to warm up, but it STARTS at 7:00). My salon is about a half hour from my school.

Most likely - it never hurts to mention you're on a schedule, and of course it will speed things up if you know exactly what you want. If your stylist is good, you'll have no problem.
