What should I say when I go get a hair cut?

I want to get my hair cut. The sides of my hair sort of puff out, and I don't want that. What can I tell the person so they can fix it. I dont want them to use that machine thing on the sides because that is what makes my hair puff out like that in the first place, so what do I say?What should I say when I go get a hair cut?
