How do I convince my dad to let me get my hair cut?

Ever since I was little my dad has felt it to be unnecessary for me to cut my hair, he always asks me in reply ';Why? Why do you want a haircut so bad?';





I've never been able to answer this question, and I need help because me telling him ';Because I want to'; isn't going to help me.





I don't even want to cut the length of my hair, just the style, and the other day I told him this and he said he doesn't like the style of hair I want, and I just feel that no matter what I say it doesn't matter.





Also please don't answer for me to just go and do it, because if I do.......woah man I'd be in major trouble, and he'd stop talking to me or something, and I dislike when people stop talking to me. I think a lot of dads are for some reason overbearing on the way their daughters look. I have the opposite problem, my dad is constantly telling me to cut my hair shorter. But maybe your dad likes the way your hair looks or something. I have a friend who's dad likes it when she buys nice things for her hair. Dads are strange.





Hmmm, now for some advice...


Maybe try saying something like (especially as you are not changing much length) even if it looks horrible, which it surely wont, it will grow out in like a month and can be back to the way he likes it. Ask him to let you do it just this once to see how it goes. Maybe he will actually like it when it is done.





My situation was completely the opposite, I always had my hair exactly the same (and long) and his after constant nagging my dad told a hairdresser (without telling me) to cut and style my hair short. I was like ';Eurgh .. I will just grow it back to the way it was';, but then I realised I like it short and style-y instead of plain. So anyway, the point of that largely irrelevant story is that even if your dad claims he hates the haircut, if you can manage to let him let you do it for a ';once off trial';, he might change his mind after seeing how awesome it looks.

well u didnt say how old you are i can image you are a young person just tell him that u are getting older and would like some sort of style to your hair why dont the both of you sit down together and discuss it show him some pic ideas on what u want and see if you both can agree on something

Ask him what styles he would ';approve'; of since you obviously need his permission. If he says none, then he is unreasonable (sounds that way already) and you should go get your hair cut the way you want it.


He is you father and if he stops talking to you over getting your haircut, there are bigger issues.

just tell him how you feel and how you feel aobut that...see what he says. u have your own mind and own life..o course you need thier guidence but you choose after all...
';accidently'; get some gum in in....make sure it's near the bottom so that you can get at least that much cut off the whole way around/across whatever ya wanna call it, and if anything doesnt go your way just start crying and sayin how terrible you think your hair looks and everyone at school calls you a scummer cuz your hair isn't nice looking and they can tell youve never had it cut....and yeah, just string him along into feeling bad for you and stuff...l mean, it should be worth a try at least, just dont let on that your faking it, or you did fake it after its over and done, but really you wouldnt be faking, just exaggerating because it is somthing you really really want, make him feel like a bad parent, like he doesnt care about how you feel and that he only cares about what he thinks. it's the approach that i would take if i was in your position, but its up to you, just an idea. good luck!!
maby u should hav a longggggggg talk w/ him and tel him u need it 4 ur new boyfriend. u dont hav 1? get 1. if tat doesn't work, then tel him everybody exep u gets haircuts and they mak fun of u. if tat doesn't work... MAN! he is hard

you need to explain that you don't want to lose the length but just change your style a bit, just say youve had it a long time and feel like you should go for an older look! if that doesn't work then you could stick some chewing gum right in the back but only on the top layer and claim someone did it on the bus, then you can get layers put in the back without taking any off the length!
first of all, it's your hair, not his. i'm sure when he wants to go and cut his hair or have it trimmed, he goes out and does it. you're probably old enough to make your own decisions. tell him that. this is your body and you feel like it's time to have your hair cut or trimmed. does your mom have a say in this, too? it's unhealthy to not cut your hair.
