In other words, what do you tell the hair stylist? How do you get a scene hair cut?
at one point, i was standing exactly where you are.
honestly, i gave up on going to get my hair cut professionally years ago.
i find it to be a lot more fun, a lot less stressful, and a lot cheaper to do it myself.
plus i can do it exactly the way i want it.
long story short, if it's a scene cut you're looking for, what i suggest is to print off some pictures from the internet of hairstyles you like.
you can then take them to a stylist (which is what i used to do) but i find they can't get it right, so i prefer to do it myself.
if you're interested in doing it yourself, all you need is scissors, a razor, and a positive attitude.
scene style is all about creativity, and so copying exactly what someone else has merely makes you a poser.
just lift up random spots in your hair and cut away, then razor the ends.
for bangs, i suggest having someone do them for you, unless like me you trust yourself :P .
i just take the scissors and cut a slant in my bangs and then razor the ends.
my hair looks good teasted, and not teased, and people are always commenting on it.
here are some links to pictures of me if you're interested.
hope i've helped!

Ok, this is going to sound plain, but just say:
I want a scene type haircut
most likely, they'll get what you mean.
Good Luck!
take a razorblade and attack ur hair
SCENE HAIR IS PLAYED OUT!
tell them that you want a scene hair cut
take them a picture,
or tell them you want really choppy layers
