A triple anitbiotic ointment, such as Neosporin.
Bactine, Desitin, or any *mild* remedy you would use for children. My dog just had a hair cut and was shaved to close to rectum. It is irritated. Any ideas what I can put on it?
Neosporin or something similar would be fine, but the dog will probably lick it off anyway. Dogs are amazingly good at healing their own wounds. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it isn't infected. It'll probably be fine in a day or two.
You can use Neosporin ( triple antibiotic is the same thing but cheaper%26gt; generic brand).
It's really the best thing as it helps the area to heal faster...
Also, any baby rash creams/ointments.
Get Neosporin Pain Relief added or the generic knock off of this brand but it must have +Pain Relief. Apply some to a clean Q-tip and swab the entire area. If you need more, get a new Q-tip so you don't infect the tube.
Right after you apply this, put the leash on and take the dog for a 5 to 15 minute walk so that the Pain Relief action will have a chance to numb the area before the dog rubs it off or licks it off.
It may or may not be the groomers fault. Sometimes new groomers try to be very thorough in their job and do not realize that they are taking too much time on the private area and they can start a heat rash. But also if this is a white colored dog or a puppy or a dog that has not had a clip in a long long time. If the dog had feces hanging to his butt hair, this can act as a 'diaper' and actually give your dog a rash down there. Once the mats and poo are clipped away, the rash becomes exposed.
If a white colored dog or a puppy, the first time they are clipped it can be quite itchy and they will come home and scoot their butt on the carpet to relieve this new itch and now they have a carpet burn because the rectum area has no more hair around to protect against the carpet fibers.
One more thing that causes the carpet scooting action is the dog having had it's anal glands emptied for the first time or having them emptied after they were extremely full. For some reason this creates a little itchy feel and dogs will scoot to maybe even just feel the sensation of finally being empty down there. Since the dog would have also had a sanitary clip, he now has no hair down there to protect that delicate skin and here comes the carpet burn. Once that is started, the itch gets bigger and bigger.
Please don't become one of those owners who insist the dog not get a sanitary clip. The sanitary clip is called that for just that reason! You must be careful upon returning home from the groomer and WATCH the dog that he doesn't go scooting. If it is easier for you, put him in his crate for a while or even get a jump on any trouble by applying the Neosporin Pain Relief BEFORE he breaks out in the rash and either crate the dog for 15 minutes or walk him.
Finally, you could bring the tube in with the dog and have the groomer apply a thin coat for you after the dog is completely finished. That way he gets his 15 minutes in the crate without any carpet to scoot on and he should be nice and numbed by the time you pick him up. Just be sure to ask for his meds back. You may want to put it in a little gift bag with rope handles so that they can hang it on his cage. Be sure it is colorful so they can't miss it, that stuff isn't cheap. Also supply a small handful of Q-tips in the bag so they can use them to apply the stuff just in case they don't have any on hand. Tape the dog's name onto the tube as well.
I hate it when groomers do this...I am a groomer and I am so careful around this area.
You can use a antibacterial ointment such as the above answers said...or any type of lotion to ease the burn can always help.
Rub some Neosporin on it.
Good luck.
corn starch works well this way if he sits on any thing all u have to do is just brush it off it wont leave any greasy stain on anything. also let the groomer know what they did wrong the could really hurt another pet %26amp; they may not realize they r getting so close.
you can put triple antibiotic on it
neosporin or even a hemmroid ointment will work.
They make antibiotic sprays and creams specially for dogs. You can find it at almost any Wal-mart.
You can apply corn starch. That will take away the redness and irritation. If she were to lick the area it won't harm her.
Try some neosporine.
