What is the difference between having your hair cut with a razor and cutting it with scissors?

Following on my from previous question lol, whats the difference?

People said I should have my hair cut with a razor to achieve the style I'm after, but whats the difference, and what should I ask for at the hairdressers?

Thankyou! :)What is the difference between having your hair cut with a razor and cutting it with scissors?
Hi Sarah, When a client sits in my chair and asks for a razor cut my first question is 'Have you ever had one before?'. Sometimes they say they don't know....You would know because either a razor cut works on your hair or it doesn't there is no in between. When you razor cut it is not a straight even cut across the hair it is more of a diagonal cut there fore if you are prone to split ends now you have a lot of them. If it is wispy and wispy layers you want a good hairdresser can just do that with his/her scissors. When you go to the hair dresser have them do a test strand of hair along with your hair cut and make sure you are not one of those people who end up hating a razor cut. You won't see the results till the hair is dry. What is the difference between having your hair cut with a razor and cutting it with scissors?
The razor does give it more of a choppy look where as the scissors can make look more natural, but most people use a razor to thin their hair.

So if you have really thick hair and don't want to deal with it, than the razor is your answer. Also, if you want your hair to look bigger at the top and a little smaller at the ends than you can use the razor for that as well.
This is a razor-comb:

Razor-combs create a much choppier, edgier look, whereas scissors can make the hair look much softer. Razor-combs and scissors can be used on any hair length or type, although a hairdresser may straighten your hair if it is wavy or curly.

I'm sure you'll look great :)
razors give a kind of wispy, choppy look where scissors give a straight smooth cut

there are also scissors that give that razored look, every hairdresser has a preference of his/ her own which they use

take a picture with you to the hair salon, it helps alot
cutting you hair wiht a razor will give it a more choppy defined look, scissors give a more natural look.
My experience is that a razor does a better job of shaping but you end up with split ends although I don't have the same problem with my face or legs.
with a razor it makes it look choppy
