Depends on how short of a haircut a 14 year old guy wants to go for. A good barber can design a regular taper cut or one of he short pomp styles-crew cut, ivy league(long crew cut), flat top crew cut- to fully suit almost any 14 year old guy's head shape, face and neck shape, frontal hairline and facial features. These styles are from easy to very easy to groom. For the short pomp styles a tiny dab of control wax is generally preferable to gel. A control wax does not set up a stiff breakable hold, so the hair can be brushed and tousled as one wishes and then brushed or combed back into place.

Some barbers describe an ivy league as a crew cut just long enough to be parted and combed to the side, if so desired. Grooming any of the short pomp styles- crew cut, ivy league, flat top crew cut- is basically the same and takes about a minute or two.

1) Towel dry hair.

2) Barely dip fingertips in jar of wax.

3)Transfer wax to palms.

4) Smooth palms over hair.

5)Brush hair off forehead to form short pomp front.

Whichever style you decide on, be sure to take a photo to help describe the desired haircut to the barber or stylist.

really simple and not difficult to maintain! you can put gel in it to add some texture and such. just take this pic or a picture you like to your hair cutter or stylist!
